Original ketuba ©2007 Elaine Adler — 22" x 22" This American couple has been living in Tokyo where the groom works. Their marriage took place on July 7, the same day as the Japanese Tanabata festival. People write wishes and hopes and attach them to bamboo plants. They also float wishes on candle baskets on waterways, hang colorful streamers in trees, and wear beautiful kimonos. All of these symbols are represented in this ketuba, along with suitcases with places to which the couple has traveled, a crane to represent good luck, and a guitar for the folk-singer bride. The trees are filled with her favorite flowers, cherry blossoms and orchids, and irises and bamboo grow along the stream.
